Unlike Haneda (HND), which is primarily a domestic hub with a growing international schedule, Narita is purpose-built for long-haul and is the base for budget Asian carriers — Peach, Jetstar, and Scoot operate from NRT rather than HND, making it the better option for onward intra-Asian connections after an intercontinental arrival. The Narita Express (N'EX) reaches Tokyo Station in 53 minutes and Shinjuku in about 80 minutes; the cheaper Keisei Skyliner reaches Ueno in 41 minutes. Cherry blossom season (late March to early April) and autumn foliage (mid-October to mid-November) drive the two biggest pricing spikes for inbound Japan flights; booking 3-4 months ahead for those windows is advisable.
